Depression is one of the most common mental health problems, affecting about 13% of people worldwide. Depression can affect people differently, but common feelings associated with depression include sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, and guilt.

If you're in United States and this sounds like you, then 29 hotlines are available and ready to support you. Consider reaching out if you notice these signs and symptoms of depression:

  • You became irritable for no reason
  • You don’t care for your hobbies or work
  • You lost interest in things you used to enjoy and find important
  • You feel discouraged and pessimistic
  • You cannot concentrate and have difficulties memorizing things
  • Your weight has changed alongside your emotions
  • Your mood has worsened in the recent weeks
  • You feel guilty, and you loath yourself

Experiencing the symptoms of depression can be the greatest challenge of your life. Nonetheless, many people in your position have successfully got through it and built a better life. Depression may feel lonely, but you are far from alone in experiencing what you are feeling.

Depression can make you feel worthless, like you don't deserve or are beyond help. But this is not true. You deserve help and support from people who care about your situation. Helpline volunteers and counselors in United States care about what you're going through, want to support you, and help you find a path forward.
